SAD - St. Augustine Decline
SAD (Saint Augustine Decline)
are letters for the virus that attacks only the St. Augustine
Grass and only in Texas and Louisiana. The first sightings are
pale or yellow colored spots on the leaves. Then the whole plant
turns yellow and quits growing and slowly dies. The only way to
help slow and treat this problem is by planting sections of
resistant grass back into the sod and helping it to take over and
to remove all lawn clippings and washing lawn equipment after each
use. There are some varieties of St. Augustine that have been
developed with resistance to this disease such as Florahome,
Seville, Raliegh, Tamlawn, and Floratam.
